Myth, Legend, and the Glorious Truth, Part 1

My children will be steeped in fairy tales. I want to be steeped in them. More than that, though, I want to be buried neck-deep in realities, tragic and outstanding alike. While I'm not sure that I want to do it all at once, I'd like to travel the world, and do a bit of exploring for myself. This post is my little appetizer for that journey.

Since I live right here in the United States, it seems reasonable that I'll start here, with a tour of the USA. Now, since y'all are (mostly) from America, I'll just mention a few of the places I'll visit, so we can get on with the rest of the world. My tour of the USA, which might take a year in itself if I hurry, will include such sights as Kauai, the Space Needle, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Grand Canyon, the top of Pikes Peak, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, the Alamo, Galveston Beach...hopefully you get my point. Anyway, I'll start with Hawaii, and make my way across America, winding up (after a detour through Northern New England) in NYC. I'll spend long enough here to check out Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, and a few other sights. By this point, I suppose I'll have been gone nearly a year, but with the couple of weeks remaining, I'll head out to Alaska, where I'll make a lovely stop in Denali National Park.

After this enjoyable trek through the USA, I might just return home for a while simply to recuperate from America's beauty. After several months (even a year or two) of normality, I'll hit the road again. This time, my destination is Canada, where I'll visit Ottawa, Hudson Bay, and make my way to the incredibly mystified Prince Edward Island, made famous by Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables.

Perhaps this is Anne's "Lake of Shining Waters" :)
Pressing up North, I'll go to the beautiful land of Greenland. Then I'll sail down to Iceland, properly named for it's place just outside the Arctic Circle. Keeping my latitude at approximately the same place, I'll head on over to the legend-filled home of the Vikings, Norway.
Something about the way the clouds are rising just tells me for sure that Leif Erikson was born here. :)

Well, after that mysterious stop, I'll regain my footing and head on over next door to Sweden, maybe just in time for the Tulip festival! Trekking across Denmark to get there, I'll end up in Germany. Though it will be tragic, I shall visit the concentration camps. On the other hand, I will also visit the glorious castles and other wonderful places. Then, boarding a ferry in the Netherlands, I'll find myself in the United Kingdom. Met by the grandeur of Dover, enfolded by the glory of London, and awed at the splendor of Oxford, I'll make sure that one of my stops is at Tentagel, the mystical supposed birthplace of legendary Arthur.

Looking through this castle ruin, I just  know that Arthur will come sailing over the sea, back to save England.

Maybe legend strikes you like it does me.
